Gruner Renewable Energy, one of India’s fastest-growing companies in the compressed biogas (CBG) sector, has announced the appointment of veteran energy sector leader Dinesh Sarraf as Chief Advisor. The move comes as the company accelerates its expansion plans and strengthens its position in India’s evolving clean energy landscape.

Mr Sarraf brings more than four decades of experience spanning energy, regulation, finance, and public sector leadership. Widely regarded as one of the most respected figures in India’s energy ecosystem, he has held several senior leadership positions, including Chairperson of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). Prior to that, he served as Chairman and Managing Director of ONGC, Director (Finance) at ONGC, and Chairman, Managing Director and CEO of ONGC Videsh. His appointment marks an important milestone for Gruner Renewable Energy as the company continues to scale its bioenergy operations amid rising demand for alternative fuels and sustainable energy infrastructure.

Welcoming Mr Sarraf to the organization, Utkarsh Gupta, Founder and CEO of Gruner Renewable Energy, said the company would benefit significantly from his strategic perspective and industry expertise. “Dinesh Sarraf’s experience across India’s energy value chain is unparalleled. His understanding of policy, regulation, project execution and energy markets will provide valuable guidance as we continue to build large-scale bioenergy infrastructure and contribute to India’s clean energy goals,” Gupta said.

MrSarraf expressed confidence in the company’s growth trajectory and its role in supporting India’s transition toward cleaner fuels. “India’s bioenergy sector is entering a critical phase of expansion, supported by strong policy initiatives and growing market demand. Gruner Renewable Energy has built a strong foundation in a short period of time, and I look forward to contributing to its mission of advancing sustainable energy solutions and strengthening the country’s energy security,” he said.

Founded in 2023, Gruner Renewable Energy has rapidly emerged as a significant player in India’s bioenergy sector. The company has developed a project pipeline exceeding ₹4,500 crore and expanded its presence across multiple states. Despite operating in a capital-intensive industry, the company has remained bootstrapped while maintaining positive EBITDA and recording strong growth. With a workforce of more than 1,000 professionals, Gruner Renewable Energy continues to invest in infrastructure that supports India’s ambition to increase domestic production of renewable fuels and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources.
