Energy In Motion Limited (EIM), a provider of integrated electric mobility solutions for long-haul freight transportation, has signed a Letter of Agreement (LOA) with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co, Limited (CATL) to establish a strategic battery supply partnership for its electric heavy commercial vehicle business in India. Under the agreement, CATL will supply 500 MWh (0.5 GWh) of advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery cells and battery pack kits for deployment across EIM’s growing fleet of electric trucks. The supply will comprise CATL’s upgraded CB7T0 cell model and the L324D06 battery pack platform, offering significantly higher energy density and longer cycle life than the previous-generation battery technology currently in use.
The battery systems will be assembled into 400.6 kWh packs for integration into EIM’s Ashwa Series 4×2 electric tractors. As the launch customer for this new-generation battery platform in India, EIM will customise the battery packs into swappable battery boxes designed to perform reliably under the country’s demanding high-temperature operating conditions.
The partnership supports EIM’s strategy of developing an integrated ecosystem for electric heavy-duty transportation by combining advanced electric vehicles with a nationwide battery-swapping and high-capacity charging network. The company introduced its flagship Ashwa 55-ton electric tractor in August 2025 and has since established six heavy-duty battery-swapping stations across the Delhi-NCR region and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) area.
Together, these facilities have the capacity to handle up to 840 battery swaps every day. EIM plans to expand its infrastructure to 40 operational heavy commercial vehicle charging and battery-swapping stations by the end of March 2027. CATL, the world’s largest battery manufacturer, accounted for 39.2 percent of the global power battery market in 2025, reinforcing its position as a leading technology provider for electric mobility worldwide.
Commenting on the agreement, Narendra Murkumbi, Managing Director of Energy In Motion Limited, said, “Partnering with CATL represents an important step in strengthening our technology platform and supply chain. Access to globally proven battery technology provides the reliability, performance and scale required to support our expanding electric truck fleet and infrastructure network. This collaboration will help accelerate the adoption of zero-emission long-haul freight transportation across India.”
