Dürr is building a large paint shop for Airbus division Premium AEROTEC, which will coat the new extra tank for the Airbus A321XLR. This project, located at the Augsburg site, includes an all-electric exhaust purification system to cut CO2 emissions.

The rear center tank (RCT) adds 13,000 liters to the Airbus A321XLR, extending its range by 8,700 kilometers. The RCT is crucial for turning short- and medium-haul planes into long-haul versions and is produced only in Augsburg.

The project involves sealing, cleaning, painting, and testing the tank. The surface must withstand harsh conditions and prevent corrosion.

To save energy, the paint booths require constant temperature and humidity. Dürr’s air ducting system reduces the air needed, cutting energy use. Energy recovery systems recycle 65% of the exhaust air energy for fresh air conditioning, further lowering consumption.

Premium AEROTEC chose an all-electric exhaust air purification system, Oxi.X RV, which uses regenerative thermal oxidation without an open flame, reducing nitrogen oxide emissions. This system operates with zero emissions using green electricity.

The exhaust air contains low solvent concentrations but high volume. The Sorpt.X CD system concentrates the exhaust air, increasing solvent concentration up to forty times. This allows the Oxi.X RV to be smaller and operate more efficiently, improving cost-effectiveness.
