Ester & Loop Industries to Build Rs. 1,385 Crore rDMT/rMEG Plant

Ester Loop Infinite Technologies Pvt Ltd (ELITe), a joint venture between Ester Industries Ltd and Canada-based Loop Industries, has announced new international supply agreements as it prepares to launch its Infinite Loop™ manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The upcoming plant will produce chemically recycled polyester materials for use in textiles, automotive, and other industries.

Under a new supply agreement, ELITe will deliver Loop™-branded 100% recycled Dimethyl Terephthalate (DMT) to Italy’s Taro Plast S.p.A., a producer of thermoplastic compounds. The recycled DMT will be used in applications requiring high-performance polymers, particularly in the automotive sector. Taro Plast has confirmed that the supplied material meets stringent purity and quality standards aligned with its sustainability goals.

In a parallel development, Loop Industries has formed a strategic alliance with South Korea’s Hyosung TNC to support the textile sector’s shift toward recycled materials. The partnership combines Loop’s chemical recycling process with Hyosung’s expertise in performance yarns. Under this alliance, Loop’s branded Twist™ resin—produced from post-consumer textile waste—will be converted by Hyosung into Regen™ performance yarns, already adopted by major apparel and activewear brands.

The Infinite Loop™ India facility, set to begin operations in late 2027, will use Loop’s proprietary depolymerisation technology along with Ester’s polymerisation systems to process textile waste into new high-grade polyester materials. These developments are part of a broader plan to position India as a major hub for circular economy solutions in the textile and plastics sectors.

The project is located at a strategically chosen industrial site in Gujarat, India, aimed at strengthening the country’s recycling and circular economy ecosystem. Once operational, the facility will produce 70,000 tonnes of recycled DMT (rDMT), 23,000 tonnes of recycled MEG (rMEG), and 70,000 tonnes of recycled PET resin (rPET) annually, contributing significantly to sustainable raw material supply for multiple industries.

With a planned investment of ₹1,600 crores, the project is designed with scalability in mind. The facility’s capacity can be increased by an additional 100,000 tonnes of rPET at the same location, supporting future demand growth and aligning with India’s long-term sustainability goals.

Commenting on the developments, Arvind Singhania, Chairman of Ester Industries Ltd, stated:
“These agreements represent a key step in establishing ELITe as a reliable supplier of sustainable materials for international markets. The facility in Gujarat, supported by technology from Loop and operational expertise from Ester, demonstrates how Indian industry can participate in global circular value chains.”

Mr Singhania added that the project aligns with national sustainability goals, including the Government of India’s “LiFE” mission and circular economy targets. By converting textile waste into high-value inputs for global industries, the initiative is expected to reduce landfill use, conserve resources, and contribute to local employment and innovation in material science.

Based in Italy, Taro Plast specializes in engineering thermoplastics and elastomers, with production facilities across Europe and North America.
