Elematic Group, a supplier of precast concrete technology, and Vakio Jindal Build have entered into a strategic partnership to promote industrialised construction in India. The collaboration aims to support the country’s growing housing and infrastructure requirements through factory-based production, automation and more systematic construction methods.

India’s construction sector faces challenges including rising costs, shortages of skilled workers, project delays and quality-control issues. Industrialised construction offers an alternative by integrating design, manufacturing and site assembly into a coordinated process, helping improve consistency and project planning.

The partnership brings together Elematic’s expertise in precast concrete technology, production automation and factory systems with Vakio Jindal Build’s capabilities in precast design, prefabrication and products such as prefabricated bathroom pods. The companies intend to help customers adopt construction methods suited to Indian market conditions.

Teppo Voutilainen, Chief Executive Officer of Elematic Group, said India’s construction market was estimated at approximately US$700 billion and was growing by around 7–8% annually. He noted that precast construction accounted for only about 1% of the country’s construction value, indicating scope for wider adoption.

Mr Voutilainen said the industry needed to move beyond conventional methods to achieve the speed, scale and quality required for India’s development. He added that buildings should be designed for precast production from the beginning rather than adapted later. Developing the skills of designers, engineers, production teams and project stakeholders would also be important to the transition.

Jussi Aho, Chairman of the Board at Vakio Global, said industrialised construction required a shift towards repeatable processes rather than treating each project as a separate exercise. He said the partnership would combine design, manufacturing and workforce capabilities to support the delivery of housing and infrastructure.

Ajay Agarwal, Executive Vice President of the Construction Solutions Business at Jindal Steel Limited, said the collaboration would bring together precast technology, industrialised design and manufacturing expertise. He said the aim was to improve construction speed, quality and productivity by combining international experience with knowledge of India’s requirements.

Under the partnership, Elematic and Vakio Jindal Build will work with customers on integrating design, production and site execution. The companies will also share international practices that can support the adoption of industrialised construction methods.

Elematic has manufacturing operations in Alwar, Rajasthan, and Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh. These facilities support its activities in India and its plans to serve customers seeking precast technology and modern construction solutions. The companies expect the partnership to support wider use of factory-produced building components as India expands its residential, industrial and infrastructure development programmes.
