Dighi Port Limited, a subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ), has entered into a partnership with Samvardhana Motherson Hamakyorex Engineered Logistics Ltd. (SAMRX), a joint venture of Motherson, to establish a dedicated roll-on/roll-off automotive logistics terminal at Dighi Port. The agreement positions Dighi Port as a key export gateway for India’s automotive industry, particularly the manufacturing cluster running from Mumbai to Pune, with the capacity to handle up to 200,000 vehicles annually.
Ashwani Gupta, CEO and Whole-Time Director of Adani Ports and SEZ, said the agreement represents a major advancement in optimizing automotive logistics efficiency across India. He emphasized that by combining APSEZ’s national logistics infrastructure with Motherson’s deep industry expertise, the partnership will deliver improved supply chain reliability, faster transit timelines and a streamlined export experience for automotive manufacturers.
Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman of Motherson Group, stated that the collaboration strengthens the company’s ability to serve global OEMs while expanding its integrated logistics portfolio. He noted that the new facility will reduce handling complexity, lower logistics costs and create an export-ready route built specifically around the future needs of the automotive sector, including EV-aligned operations.
The new terminal will incorporate state-of-the-art handling systems, end-to-end vehicle processing capability, and digital tools for real-time tracking and operational visibility. The strategic location offers direct access to key manufacturing zones and fast highway connectivity through NH-66, making it one of the most efficient vehicle evacuation routes in western India.
With Dighi’s expansion into automotive roll-on/roll-off operations, APSEZ continues to strengthen its role as India’s leading integrated logistics provider. The company now operates 15 ports and terminals across the country alongside multimodal infrastructure that includes a diversified marine fleet, logistics parks, warehousing assets, and a nationwide trucking network. Handling approximately 28% of India’s total port cargo volumes and targeting one billion tonnes of throughput by 2030, APSEZ continues its strategy of building world-class trade gateways that support industry growth, enable exports, and connect India more deeply with global supply chains.
