Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), the manufacturer of BharatBenz trucks and buses, has highlighted India’s expanding strategic role within Daimler Truck following the establishment of the Mercedes-Benz Trucks segment’s new ISEAA customer region covering India, South-East Asia and Australia-Pacific. The new structure brings together 42 countries and nearly 2.8 billion people under a single customer-focused regional framework.
The Mercedes-Benz Trucks segment, one of Daimler Truck’s global key segments, comprises the Mercedes-Benz Trucks and BharatBenz brands. While BharatBenz serves customers in India through DICV, Mercedes-Benz Trucks serves markets across South-East Asia, Australia-Pacific and other global regions.
Under Daimler Truck’s global operating model, the Mercedes-Benz Trucks segment is organised into four customer regions: Europe, LAMEA, China and ISEAA. DICV serves as the anchor entity for ISEAA, reflecting India’s growing role as a manufacturing, engineering and export hub for Daimler Truck.
Since commencing operations, DICV has exported more than 75,000 trucks and buses and over 330 million parts to more than 70 markets worldwide. Its Chennai facility also supplies medium-duty transmissions to Daimler Truck plants in Germany. Commercial vehicle demand across the ISEAA region is expected to grow by more than 5% annually, creating opportunities for greater regional collaboration and customer engagement.
Torsten Schmidt, CEO & Managing Director, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles and President, Mercedes-Benz Trucks Customer Region ISEAA, said, “India has long been an important market for Daimler Truck and the home of BharatBenz. Through the new ISEAA customer region, we are bringing India, South-East Asia and Australia-Pacific closer together to strengthen collaboration, share capabilities and respond faster to customer needs across these markets.”
Alongside its regional role, DICV is advancing the next phase of BharatBenz’s product development and customer support strategy. The company is preparing its truck and bus portfolio with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibrated for Indian operating conditions, ahead of evolving safety regulations.
BharatBenz is also expanding the use of Daimler Truck technologies in India. Following the introduction of HX and Torqshift in the construction and mining segment, the company is extending technologies such as the Torqshift Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). Already deployed across hundreds of thousands of Daimler Truck heavy-duty vehicles globally, the technology has been adapted for Indian duty cycles to enhance driver comfort, reduce fatigue and support fleet efficiency and lower total cost of ownership.
DICV is also strengthening its customer ecosystem through TruckConnect, its digital fleet management solution, which provides vehicle performance monitoring and data-driven fleet insights. The BharatBenz Rakshana service assurance programme currently services and delivers more than 98% of vehicles within 48 hours. DICV plans to expand its nationwide service network from 430 touchpoints to 600 by 2030, with increased focus on northern, eastern and north-eastern India.
The company’s regional expansion is supported by an additional investment commitment of approximately ₹4,000 crore in Tamil Nadu under a non-binding facilitation MoU with the state government. This would take DICV’s cumulative investment in India to more than ₹14,500 crore, supporting manufacturing, R&D, future technologies and long-term competitiveness.
DICVcurrently operates with 92% localisation and more than 400 local suppliers. Established in 2009, the company operates a 400-acre integrated manufacturing and R&D facility at Oragadam near Chennai and employs more than 4,000 people. Since the launch of BharatBenz in 2012, more than 230,000 trucks and buses have been delivered to customers across India.
