Cummins India, a stalwart in the power solutions industry, has unveiled its latest initiative to bolster awareness and comprehension of Bharat Stage VI (BSVI) engines and emission norms with the introduction of BSVI OBD II training vans. The vans, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, will provide hands-on education to mechanics, technicians, truck drivers, and customers, enhancing their understanding of BSVI OBD II technology. This effort aligns with Cummins India’s commitment to drive innovation and reliability to empower its customers’ success.
Cummins India, a power trailblazer, encompasses a network of interrelated business units specializing in the design, manufacturing, distribution, and servicing of engines and associated technologies. This spans fuel systems, air handling, filtration, emission solutions, and electrical power generation systems. With the recent acquisition of Meritor, Cummins has expanded its portfolio to encompass drivetrain, mobility, braking, aftermarket solutions, and electric powertrains for both commercial and industrial sectors. Cummins’ dedication to technology and pioneering initiatives manifests in innovative solutions and dependable services, delivered at optimal value to users nationwide.
In an inaugural event held at the Cummins India Office Campus, Rajendra Petkar, President and Chief Technology Officer of Tata Motors, Anjali Pandey, Chief Operating Officer of Cummins India, and Nitin Jirafe, Vice President of Engine Business at Cummins India, along with the leadership teams of Tata Motors and Cummins, flagged off the training vans.
The training vans are ingeniously equipped with Cummins BSVI engines, namely the B5.6 and B6.7 models, augmented by cut sections of engine components, a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, and a single module after-treatment system. This setup ensures that participants receive an immersive learning experience, enabling them to interact with real engines, explore their components, and grasp their operational mechanisms. The vans are further furnished with LCD TVs that relay training videos and information on Cummins BS-VI engines, presented in a rich audio-visual format.
Beyond serving as mobile classrooms, the vans also serve as platforms to highlight the advantages of Cummins engines, after-treatment systems, and a wide spectrum of offerings available in Cummins’ on-highway aftermarket. These include Genuine Cummins parts, the Saathi mobile app tailored for truck drivers, Components Care Centers (CCC), and the embodiment of expertise, Vishwasji, representing the trust, experience, innovation, and proficiency inherent in every member of Cummins India’s aftermarket sales and service team.
Nitin Jirafe, Vice President of Engine Business, Cummins India, emphasized, “Cummins is committed to continually enhancing customer experiences that embody our vision of innovation, propelling their success. With over 2.4 lakh Cummins BSVI-powered vehicles already traversing Indian roads, these BSVI OBD II emission-compliant engines underline our dedication to powering a greener India.”
Mohan Ramachandran, Commercial Director of Engine Business and Aftermarket at Cummins India, added, “The training vans offer multifaceted benefits – educating truck drivers about the engine’s intricacies to enhance fuel efficiency, reducing the carbon footprint of commercial vehicles, and expanding our engagement with stakeholders.”
Through the BSVI OBD II Training Vans, Cummins India continues to empower individuals and fortify the automotive ecosystem by equipping them with the knowledge and prowess essential to navigate the cutting-edge BS-VI technology landscape.
Since the inception of the first mobile training fleet in November 2019, these vans have successfully conducted over 1300 sessions across 1640 cities, training more than 20,000 technicians, vehicle body fabricators, and drivers, enhancing their skills and knowledge.
