Crown Holdings, Inc (NYSE: CCK) has begun construction of its first beverage can manufacturing facility in India, marking the company’s entry into the country’s beverage can market. Crown held a groundbreaking ceremony for the facility in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, on September 9. Crown executives, local government representatives, customers and other guests attended the event, which marked the start of construction.
The facility was announced in April 2026 and will have two production lines with an annual capacity of approximately 2.2 billion aluminium beverage cans. Operations are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027. The plant is being developed to meet rising demand for aluminium beverage cans across alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage categories. Crown said the facility will use advanced manufacturing technologies and will be designed around quality and sustainability standards.
Following the groundbreaking ceremony, Crown executives met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to discuss the progress of the investment and the company’s plans for supporting the growth of the beverage industry in India. During the meeting, Crown received the official land allotment letter for the project. The document represents another milestone in the development of the company’s first beverage can manufacturing facility in India.
Djalma Novaes, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Crown, said the investment reflects the company’s confidence in the Indian beverage market and the growing role of beverage cans as a packaging solution. “This investment reflects Crown’s confidence in the future of the Indian beverage market, and the growing role of the beverage can as a sustainable packaging solution. The Unnao facility will combine advanced manufacturing technology, operational excellence and responsible resource management to support our customers’ growth while creating long-term value for the region,” Mr Novaes said.
The Unnao project is part of Crown’s expansion into high-growth markets and strengthens its presence in India. The company said the facility will support customers as demand for aluminium beverage cans increases. Crown also said the project reflects its cooperation with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and its long-term plans for the Indian market.
