Continental, has expanded the production of its Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) at its Bangalore plant. This move aims to meet the rising demand for TPMS in India.
The new production line can produce 3.3 million wheel units per year and features fully automated processes. This expansion supports local Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and targets export markets, especially Korea.
Ramnath Sivaraman, Head of Motion Technologies and Services at Continental Automotive India, said, “The expanded TPMS line shows our commitment to meeting the growing demand for advanced and affordable safety technologies. The new TPMS will enhance vehicle safety by ensuring optimal tire pressure.”
The second-generation TPMS is more accurate in measuring tire pressure, temperature, and motion. It sends this information to the vehicle’s instrument cluster, helping maintain optimal air pressure for better safety and efficiency. Initially, the new line will assemble wheel units locally, with plans to localize more parts later.
Phanindra Karody, Head of the Bangalore Plant, added, “Our focus on localization and smart manufacturing processes, like collaborative robots and digital traceability systems, allows us to scale up production to meet local and global demands. We plan to double our TPMS production capacity in the next three years.”
Continental’s TPMS offers benefits like optimized tire usage, enhanced driving safety, lower CO₂ emissions, reduced fuel consumption, and extended battery range for electric vehicles. The system is reliable for up to ten years and includes user-friendly features like a smartphone app.
Continental’s Bangalore plant, the largest electronics manufacturing plant in India, uses advanced technologies to ensure efficiency and precision. The plant is Green Plant Label Gold certified, highlighting Continental’s commitment to sustainability.
