Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, has expanded its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at Subang Aerotech Park in Malaysia with an investment of US$63 million, significantly strengthening its regional support capabilities for the fast-growing aviation market across Asia-Pacific. The expansion increases the company’s operational footprint in Selangor from 46,000 square feet to 164,000 square feet, making the Subang facility its principal regional hub for advanced component maintenance and overhaul. The transition to the new facility is expected to be completed by the end of the year, positioning Collins Aerospace to support a regional aircraft fleet that is projected to drive a substantial increase in MRO demand over the next two decades.

The enlarged facility introduces a broader range of repair and overhaul capabilities for critical aircraft components, including air cycle machines, heat exchangers, valves and next-generation aircraft starters. These capabilities will support commercial, military and business aviation operators across the region with faster turnaround times and enhanced service efficiency.

To improve productivity and operational performance, the facility incorporates advanced digital technologies, including digital tier boards, eAndon systems, autonomous mobile robots and real-time location tracking. These technologies are designed to streamline workflows, improve visibility across operations and enhance customer service while reducing maintenance turnaround times.

Speaking on the expansion, Irene Makris, President of Power & Controls at Collins Aerospace, said the Asia-Pacific region continues to be one of the company’s most important growth markets. She noted that the investment enables Collins Aerospace to expand alongside its customers while strengthening regional support capabilities. The company also plans to double its skilled workforce in Malaysia to meet growing customer demand and reinforce its long-term commitment to the country’s aerospace sector.

The new facility has also been designed with sustainability and operational resilience in mind. A smart building management system optimises energy and utility consumption, while upgraded safety systems, environmentally conscious equipment and improved ergonomic workstations create a safer and more efficient working environment. The scalable infrastructure also allows the facility to accommodate future technological upgrades and operational expansion.

Malaysia’s Minister of Transport, YB Loke Siew Fook, welcomed the investment, describing it as a strong endorsement of Malaysia’s aerospace ecosystem, skilled workforce and investment environment. He said the project supports the country’s ambition to strengthen its position as a leading aerospace maintenance and engineering hub in the Asia-Pacific region while creating new opportunities for local talent development.

The Subang expansion builds on Collins Aerospace’s broader investment strategy across Asia-Pacific. Since 2021, the company has introduced additional MRO capabilities for electrical power systems, environmental control systems, airframe control systems and engine control systems across the region.

Collins Aerospace currently employs approximately 150 people in Malaysia and around 10,000 employees across 24 locations in eight Asia-Pacific countries. With more than five decades of regional presence, the company continues to provide manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, project management and customer support services to commercial, military and business aviation customers, reinforcing its long-term commitment to supporting the region’s expanding aerospace industry.
