Chemplast Sanmar has unveiled plans for a substantial expansion initiative, designating an investment of Rs 1,007 crore over the next four years to augment its operations across various facilities in Tamil Nadu. This investment has been strategically allocated to strengthen capacities at both the Custom Manufactured Chemicals Division (CMCD) located in Berigai and the Specialty Paste PVC resin manufacturing unit situated in Cuddalore.
The Sanmar Group, a multinational conglomerate, has its global headquarters in Chennai, India, and operates manufacturing and distribution facilities in the USA, Mexico, Egypt, and various locations across India. The conglomerate is involved in key business sectors, including Chemicals, Engineering, and Shipping, contributing to a revenue of approximately $1.5 billion. With a workforce of around 8000 employees directly and indirectly engaged across diverse sectors and locations, the Sanmar Group maintains a significant global presence.
Chemplast Sanmar, an entity within the Sanmar Group has recently entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu state government. This agreement delineates an extensive and enduring investment strategy, reflecting a strategic initiative toenhance the company’s manufacturing prowess and enhance its overall production capacities. This concerted effort is set to contribute significantly to the company’s growth trajectory.
A milestone achieved in the course of Sanmar Group’s expansive journey was marked by the commencement of Phase-1 operations at the Berigai facility, entailing a substantial investment amounting to Rs 300 crore. This inaugural phase is exclusively focused on the production of sophisticated intermediates, tailored to meet the requirements of the worldwide agrochemical, pharmaceutical, and fine chemical sectors.
This strategic initiative reflects the vision of the brand to deliver cutting-edge solutions and contributing to the growth of industries on a global scale. The envisaged expansion is also set to create substantial employment opportunities, with an estimated 600 individuals expected to benefit from the upcoming job openings.
The Berigai-based Custom Manufactured Chemicals Division (CMCD) of Chemplast Sanmar is focused on the manufacturing of intermediates catering to diverse global sectors such as agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and fine chemicals.
