Castrol has announced that two of its direct-to-chip cooling fluids, Castrol ON PG25 and ON PG25T, have been validated to meet NVIDIA requirements for AI factory and data centre infrastructure. The validation provides data centre operators, equipment manufacturers and cooling-system providers with additional assurance when selecting liquid-cooling solutions for high-performance computing environments.

The growing demand for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing is increasing the amount of processing power being deployed inside data centres. This is also generating higher levels of heat, creating challenges for traditional air-cooling systems. Direct-to-chip liquid cooling offers an alternative by circulating coolant through cold plates installed on high-heat components such as central processing units and graphics processing units.

Castrol ON PG25 and PG25T are designed for use in these liquid-cooling environments. The fluids form part of Castrol’s thermal management portfolio developed for data centres supporting AI, machine learning and cloud computing workloads. The closed-loop cooling approach allows the fluid to circulate continuously without exposure to the atmosphere. This can reduce evaporative water loss and support improved water usage effectiveness in AI factory infrastructure.

The NVIDIA validation followed a technical assessment of several characteristics important to liquid-cooling performance and system reliability. The review included corrosion resistance, thermal stability, dilution-water quality, propylene glycol base-fluid purity and compatibility with materials exposed to the coolant. These materials include metals, plastics, seals and other components used within liquid-cooling systems.

The assessment also considered Castrol’s business and global supply-chain capabilities, providing an additional evaluation of the company’s ability to support customers across different markets.Peter Huang, Global President of Thermal Management & Data Centres at Castrol, said the validation strengthens customer confidence as AI infrastructure expands and liquid cooling becomes increasingly important for high-performance computing.

Sung . Kim, Data Centre Global Technology Manager at Castrol, said Castrol subjects its thermal management fluids to extensive testing before commercial deployment. According to the company, the NVIDIA validation confirms the performance of PG25 and PG25T under the demanding requirements associated with modern AI infrastructure.

The validation comes as data centre operators worldwide look for cooling technologies capable of handling increasing computing densities while improving energy and water efficiency. Liquid cooling is gaining importance as next-generation AI systems require greater thermal management capabilities.

Castrol’s thermal management business develops cooling fluids for data centres and energy storage systems under the Castrol ON brand. Its data centre portfolio is designed to support applications across AI, machine learning and cloud computing throughout the lifecycle of data centre infrastructure.
