Cargill has announced a significant expansion of its edible oil facility in Port Klang, Malaysia, with the addition of a new specialty fats production line. The multi-million-dollar investment is aimed at strengthening Cargill’s global food solutions portfolio and supporting growing demand across confectionery, bakery, and dairy sectors.
The expanded facility enhances Cargill’s ability to produce a diverse range of specialty fats, including cocoa butter equivalents, low-trans-fat cocoa butter replacers, and application-specific fats for frying, baking, and fillings. These solutions enable food manufacturers to develop products that meet evolving consumer expectations for taste, texture, and nutritional quality.
Demand for chocolate and bakery products continues to rise globally, particularly in the Asia Pacific region, which is projected to increase its share of the global chocolate market significantly by 2030. At the same time, consumers are becoming more conscious of ingredient composition and health profiles, prompting manufacturers to seek innovative solutions that balance indulgence with nutritional considerations.
The Port Klang expansion allows Cargill to offer greater formulation flexibility and supply reliability, helping customers navigate fluctuating ingredient markets while maintaining consistent product performance. The facility is equipped with advanced processing technologies and supported by the company’s on-site Lipid Research and Development center, enabling rapid innovation and collaboration with customers.
Cargill’s specialty fats portfolio includes established brands such as Coconera™, Olinera™, Ocolna™, and CremoFLEX™, each designed to address specific application needs in chocolate, confectionery, and bakery products. In addition, the company is introducing new offerings such as Bakefry™ and Bakefill™, which provide enhanced performance for foodservice and industrial applications.
The expansion builds on a previous $20 million investment made in 2020 to modernize the same facility. Together, these initiatives reinforce Cargill’s position as a reliable supplier of specialty fats and a strategic partner for food manufacturers worldwide.
With operations in Malaysia since 1978, Cargill plays a key role in regional and global supply chains, supported by integrated sourcing, processing, and distribution capabilities. The Port Klang facility serves customers across Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. This latest investment underscores Cargill’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and meeting the evolving needs of the global food industry.
