Brakes India, a major brake system manufacturer, is planning to set up a new factory near Hosur, Tamil Nadu. This factory will be a joint venture with ADVICS, a leading brake system supplier from Japan. The joint venture will be owned 51% by Brakes India and 49% by ADVICS.
They will invest ₹500 crore in this new facility to make advanced braking products for Indian light vehicles. Sriram Viji, Managing Director of Brakes India, said they are looking at land in the SIPCOT park at Shoolagiri and are waiting for the state’s approval.
Focus on EVs
The Tamil Nadu government is setting up a Future Mobility and E-Vehicle Park at Shoolagiri to attract investments. Under the joint venture with ADVICS, Brakes India will produce advanced brake control products and systems, including electronic stability control (ESC). ESC is important for both traditional and electric vehicles.
ADVICS works closely with Japanese automakers like Toyota and brings expertise in hybrid and electric vehicles. This joint venture aims to meet the growing demand for hybrid and electric vehicle brake systems.
Brakes India already supplies braking parts to electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers and has a strong order book. The company partners with both domestic and international automakers, including Tata Motors. The company, worth ₹7,500 crore, supplies braking parts and systems to EV makers in both the passenger and commercial vehicle segments.
