BorgWarner Expands Partnership with Chery to Deliver Next-Generation AWD Systems

Manufacturing-News

BorgWarner has signed multiple agreements with Chery to provide advanced all-wheel drive technologies, including its torque-on-demand transfer case with mechanical lock (Mlock TOD) and sixth-generation Cross Wheel Drive (Gen VI XWD) system. Production for these systems is slated to start in 2027, marking another milestone in the growing collaboration between the two companies.

According to Isabelle McKenzie, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager of Drivetrain and Morse Systems, the partnership reflects BorgWarner’s strong technology base and wide-ranging expertise, supporting Chery’s ambitions in both domestic and international markets.

For Chery’s pickup trucks, BorgWarner will deliver its Mlock TOD transfer case featuring the company’s HY-VO® chain technology, designed to enhance efficiency at higher speeds. The system offers 2H and AUTO modes for optimized fuel economy and smoother performance on regular roads, along with mechanical lock settings—4H Lock and 4L Lock—for superior off-road traction, stability, and climbing power.

Chery’s SUV lineup will benefit from BorgWarner’s latest Gen VI XWD system, which incorporates an advanced coupling and electronic limited-slip differential. This new generation integrates a modular piston pump, brushless DC motor, and compact controller to cut down weight and cost while improving system efficiency. The setup ensures strong AWD performance with precise torque control, enhancing stability, handling, and grip across various driving conditions.

BorgWarner has a strong commitment to sustainability, developing technologies that improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and enhance vehicle performance. The company serves a diverse customer base, including automakers, suppliers, and consumers worldwide, with a growing emphasis on electric mobility and hybrid systems.
