Bondada Engineering Limited has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) from Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited (GIPCL) to develop a 20 MW/120 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Energy Storage System (VRFB BESS) at GIPCL’s 165 MW natural gas power plant complex in Vadodara, Gujarat. The project includes a 10-year operations and maintenance (O&M) contract.

Bondada Engineering said the project is India’s largest grid-scale vanadium redox flow battery storage installation. The contract expands the company’s work in energy storage and adds to its renewable energy engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) portfolio.

The scope covers engineering, procurement and construction of the 120 MWh battery storage system, followed by operations and maintenance for 10 years. Completion is scheduled within 18 months from the receipt of the Notice of Award. Dr. Bondada Raghavendra Rao, Chairman and Managing Director of Bondada Engineering, said the project marks an important step in the company’s expansion into advanced energy storage technologies. He noted that storage systems would play an increasingly important role as India adds renewable energy capacity and works to maintain a reliable power supply.

Vanadium Redox Flow Battery technology is used to store electricity and release it when required, making it suitable for long-duration energy storage applications. Such systems can support grid stability and help manage fluctuations in renewable power generation.

India’s energy transition is expected to drive demand for storage infrastructure. The government has set a target of deploying approximately 236 GWh of battery energy storage systems by 2030, creating opportunities for companies involved in storage project development, equipment supply and system integration.

The GIPCL project follows Bondada Engineering’s work on a 100 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Energy Storage System for NTPC Renewable Energy at Khavda, Gujarat. The two projects strengthen the company’s experience in the deployment and maintenance of flow battery systems.

Bondada Engineering operates across renewable energy, telecommunications infrastructure and other EPC segments. The company said its expansion into long-duration storage forms part of its strategy to participate in emerging energy infrastructure markets and support India’s growing requirements for reliable and sustainable electricity.

Bondada Engineering Limited is a Hyderabad-based engineering, procurement and construction company with operations across renewable energy, telecommunications infrastructure and other engineering sectors. The company provides infrastructure development and related services to support India’s energy and connectivity requirements.
