Blue Energy Motors (BEM) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) have operationalised Bhiwandi’s first battery-swapping station for electric heavy-duty trucks, extending the Mumbai–Pune Electric Freight Corridor. The facility is located in Bhiwandi, a major logistics and warehousing hub in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The station marks a step in the partnership announced by the two companies in January 2026. It supports the adoption of electric heavy-duty trucks by reducing the time vehicles spend waiting for energy replenishment. Battery swapping for BEM’s electric trucks can be completed in less than five minutes, helping freight operators improve vehicle utilisation and reduce operational downtime.

The facility also includes a public electric vehicle charging station serving two-wheelers, four-wheelers and commercial vehicles. This makes the site a multi-segment energy hub within HPCL’s existing retail network, catering to both freight operators and other EV users.

Anand Mimani, CEO – EV and New Energy Business at Blue Energy Motors, said the company was working to make electric freight a practical and scalable option in India. He said the partnership combines BEM’s vehicle capabilities with HPCL’s energy infrastructure and retail presence. Bhiwandi’s freight activity makes it an important location for the company’s expansion plans, he added.

The station builds on the Mumbai–Pune Electric Freight Corridor launched by Blue Energy Motors in October 2025. The company plans to expand its battery-swapping and charging network across key markets to support electric trucking and the wider EV ecosystem.

Blue Energy Motors has more than 1,400 green heavy-duty trucks operating on Indian freight routes. According to the company, these vehicles have covered more than 150 million green kilometres, helping avoid over 44,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, equivalent to the carbon absorption of approximately 1.8 million trees.

HPCL, a Maharatna central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is expanding its electric mobility infrastructure alongside its conventional energy operations. Under its HP e-Charge brand, the company has established more than 5,800 EV charging stations and over 150 battery-swapping stations across India. The Bhiwandi facility combines rapid battery replacement for heavy-duty electric trucks with public charging services. The companies said such partnerships can help establish the infrastructure required for wider electric commercial vehicle adoption.
