Avio Smart Market Stack Limited (ASMS), formerly known as Bartronics India Limited, has entered into a strategic partnership with BITS Pilani to jointly develop a next-generation digital ecosystem aimed at addressing key challenges faced by rural communities across India. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), brings together ASMS’s implementation capabilities and rural outreach network with BITS Pilani’s expertise in engineering, data science, research, and management education. The initiative is expected to support more than 40 million farmers and rural residents through technology-enabled solutions focused on governance, agriculture, financial inclusion, and sustainable development.

Under the partnership, the two organizations will co-create scalable digital platforms powered by technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, and advanced data analytics. The objective is to develop evidence-based systems capable of improving operational efficiency, rural service delivery, digital accessibility, and governance frameworks.

The collaboration seeks to address several longstanding challenges affecting rural India, including limited access to formal financial services, inadequate agricultural resources, lack of reliable market intelligence, healthcare accessibility gaps, and growing concerns around climate resilience in farming practices. By integrating advanced technologies with field-level implementation, the initiative aims to create practical solutions that can be deployed across multiple states and adapted for different regional requirements. The organizations stated that the focus will remain on building systems capable of delivering measurable social and economic outcomes at scale.

The partnership also creates opportunities for academic research, field experimentation, and practical innovation for students and researchers at BITS Pilani. Early-stage initiatives under discussion include pilot programmes for crop yield prediction, digital financial literacy platforms, and research projects focused on strengthening e-governance mechanisms in rural communities. These initiatives are expected to combine real-time data collection, predictive analytics, and digital service delivery tools to support better decision-making for farmers, local administrators, and rural households.

Dr Raja Krishna Murthy M, Head of Agri Tech Business at ASMS, said the collaboration represents an important step toward building a more inclusive and technology-driven rural ecosystem in India. According to Dr Murthy, the partnership combines academic excellence with large-scale implementation capabilities to develop innovative solutions across agriculture, digital governance, rural livelihoods, and financial inclusion. He added that the broader objective is to create sustainable and long-term impact for underserved communities and farming populations across the country.

The initiative comes at a time when digital transformation is becoming increasingly important for rural development. Government programmes, fintech adoption, precision agriculture, and digital governance frameworks are driving demand for integrated platforms capable of improving access to services and reducing inefficiencies in rural systems.

Industry observers note that technology-driven rural ecosystems can play a significant role in strengthening agricultural productivity, improving financial participation, enhancing healthcare access, and enabling better market connectivity for farmers and small enterprises. The ASMS-BITS Pilani partnership is also expected to strengthen industry-academia collaboration in India by creating a framework where research and innovation can be directly aligned with real-world implementation challenges.

BITS Pilani has long been recognized for its focus on technology research and entrepreneurship, while ASMS has established operational capabilities in delivering digital and infrastructure-led solutions across diverse markets. The collaboration is expected to leverage these complementary strengths to build scalable and sustainable rural innovation models.

ASMS operates as a rural financial inclusion and technology company focused on developing integrated rural commerce and agri-tech platforms. Through Project AVIO, it continues to expand its efforts in building efficient, scalable, and technology-enabled agricultural ecosystems.
