Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) handled a record 50 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in August 2026, its highest-ever monthly cargo volume. The performance marked a 19% increase over August last year and highlighted strong growth across the company’s port network in India and international markets. The record performance was supported by broad-based growth in cargo volumes, particularly dry cargo and containers. During August, dry cargo volumes increased 25% year-on-year, while container volumes rose 15%.
APSEZ said the results reflect the progress of its diversified growth strategy. Its container business has continued to expand, supported by the growing contribution of its transshipment operations at Vizhinjam and Colombo. These facilities are helping APSEZ strengthen its position in regional trade flows.
The company is also expanding its presence in liquid cargo and gaining momentum in dry cargo segments, including coastal cargo. The combination of different cargo categories and a wider port network has helped APSEZ build a more balanced business. For the first eight months of FY2026-27, APSEZ handled 234.4 MMT of cargo, registering 16% year-on-year growth. Dry cargo increased 17%, while container volumes grew 15% during the period.
The company’s logistics business also recorded movement during the month. Rail volumes stood at 54,131 TEUs in August, representing a 6% sequential increase from the previous month. On a year-to-date basis through August 2026, APSEZ’s logistics rail volume stood at 2,50,461 TEUs, compared with the corresponding period last year.
The August cargo milestone comes as APSEZ continues to expand its port, logistics and cargo-handling operations. The company’s growing container volumes, supported by its transshipment network, are contributing to its overall cargo growth, while investments across other cargo categories are helping broaden its business.
APSEZ said the latest performance further strengthens its progress towards its long-term ambition of handling 1 billion metric tonnes of cargo annually by FY31. The company’s nationwide and international port network remains central to this growth strategy. The strong performance across cargo categories in August indicates continued demand across its key markets and reinforces the company’s focus on expanding capacity and improving its ability to serve regional and international trade.
With cargo volumes continuing to grow across dry cargo and containers, along with increasing activity in liquid and coastal cargo, APSEZ is seeking to build sustained growth across its ports and logistics operations. The record 50 MMT monthly volume marks another significant milestone for the company as it works towards its FY31 cargo-handling target.
