Apollo Micro Systems Ltd (AMS), a leader in defence and aerospace technology, has entered into a Joint Development Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Navy, represented by the Directorate General of Naval Armament Inspection (DGNAI), and the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai (IIT-Chennai). The MoU was exchanged at the Swavalamban 2025 event in New Delhi on November 25, 2025, in the presence of Hon’ble Raksha Mantri (Defence Minister) Rajnath Singh. This landmark agreement supports India’s vision for a self-reliant defence ecosystem under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

This strategic alliance unites leading experts from India’s research, defence, and industrial sectors to accelerate the development of homegrown defence technologies. The partnership creates a structured approach to solving key military challenges through advanced research and development. Under this framework, IIT-Chennai will spearhead the research and design phase, developing innovative concepts aligned with the evolving operational needs of the Armed Forces.

Apollo Micro Systems (AMS) will play a crucial role in translating these research outcomes into deployable technologies. With more than 40 years of experience in precision engineering and manufacturing, AMS will focus on scaling prototypes into rugged, field-ready systems suitable for modern combat environments. Meanwhile, DGNAI will provide operational expertise, ensuring the solutions meet real-world defence requirements. It will also supervise testing and certification to ensure compliance with strict naval and defence standards.

Commenting on the collaboration, Karunakar Reddy, Managing Director of AMS, noted that the MoU represents a major milestone in strengthening India’s defence ecosystem. He emphasized that combining IIT-Chennai’s research excellence with AMS’s manufacturing capability and DGNAI’s operational oversight will help deliver cutting-edge indigenous technologies and significantly reduce dependence on global suppliers.

Looking ahead, the partnership is expected to grow beyond naval applications and evolve into a multi-service initiative supporting the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and emerging space defence programs. Together, IIT-Chennai and AMS aim to develop next-generation systems across multiple domains, reinforcing India’s strategic capabilities and future-readiness.

The agreement also reflects India’s shifting focus toward collaborative innovation in core defence areas, including electronic warfare, high-energy weapons, and precision guidance systems. Each partner brings strong credentials to the initiative: AMS as a longstanding leader in advanced defence engineering, IIT-Chennai as a globally recognized research powerhouse, and DGNAI as a critical authority ensuring quality and indigenization of naval systems. Collectively, they strengthen India’s path toward self-reliance in defence technology.
