Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) hosted the launch of MedTech RoboSprint 2026, a two-day programme that brought together more than 32 startups from different states and over 60 participants to develop medical robotics solutions for healthcare applications in India and overseas. The programme was organised by RoboMed in collaboration with the Innovation Hub Foundation for Cobotics (IHFC) at IIT Delhi and AMTZ. It focused on helping innovators turn engineering concepts into practical healthcare technologies through ideation, prototype development and evaluation of solutions against clinical needs.
RoboMed supports the development of indigenous surgical robotic systems, including robotic arms and assembly capabilities. Its ecosystem helps startups design, prototype and customise medical, rehabilitation, surgical and assistive robots, supporting their progress from early-stage concepts towards scale-up.
The first day of MedTech RoboSprint focused on developing ideas and refining prototypes. Participating teams presented their solutions to an expert jury, which assessed them on technical feasibility, clinical relevance, originality and potential for implementation.
Dr Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder CEO of AMTZ, said India needed to move from being a consumer of advanced medical robotics to developing technologies that could compete globally. He said AMTZ was working to connect innovators with infrastructure, funding, mentorship and market opportunities to help turn promising ideas into healthcare solutions.
The programme concluded on October 15 with a panel discussion on “Emerging Trends in Medical Robotics” and the announcement of GenElek Technologies as the winning team. The company was recognised for its Robotic Gait Trainer solution. As part of the support available through AMTZ, the winning team will have access to research and development infrastructure, rapid prototyping, specialised testing and validation, incubation and market access. These resources are intended to help advance the solution towards commercialisation.
AMTZ’s Make in India Healthcare (MIIH) initiative also connects innovators with industry partners to support the development of indigenous healthcare technologies. The initiative is aligned with the organisation’s vision of developing healthcare products in India for domestic and international markets.
Through programmes such as MedTech RoboSprint, AMTZ aims to help medical technology startups develop and validate their ideas, strengthen their product development capabilities and prepare solutions for wider use. The initiative supports India’s efforts to build domestic medical technology capabilities and expand the role of locally developed innovations in healthcare.
Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) is India’s premier medical technology manufacturing hub, dedicated to fostering innovation, reducing import dependency, and promoting self-sufficiency in the healthcare sector. Located in Visakhapatnam, AMTZ provides a world-class ecosystem for medical device manufacturing, research, and development. The zone features state-of-the-art infrastructure, including testing labs, regulatory support, and incubation facilities, enabling companies to develop cutting-edge medical technologies.
