In a landmark achievement, the Ampere Nexus from Greaves Electric Mobility has become the first electric two-wheeler to reach Shipki La Pass, situated at an altitude of 13,200 feet and just 200 metres from the Line of Control. This extraordinary journey not only marks a milestone for Indian electric vehicles but also supports the Indian Army’s Border Tourism Initiative, led by the Tripeak Brigade under the Surya Command.

The expedition, flagged off from Chandigarh on August 9, 2025, spanned three days and over 425 km of challenging terrain. Two Ampere Nexus scooters completed the route, navigating through high-altitude climbs and rugged mountain roads via Shimla, Reckong Peo, and Pooh, before making the final ascent through the Kinnaur Valley to Shipki La.

Since its debut in 2024 with the iconic Kashmir-to-Kanyakumari ride, the Ampere Nexus has been setting new benchmarks in endurance and performance. Now, with the successful Shipki La ascent, it has further proven its capability to perform in extreme conditions, from the highways of the plains to some of the most remote and elevated routes in the country.

On reaching the pass, the riders and support team were welcomed by Indian Army personnel, joining together for a flag-hoisting ceremony to mark India’s 79th Independence Day. The moment captured the spirit of national pride, technological advancement, and sustainable mobility coming together at the frontier.

The journey has also been officially recognised by the India Book of Records with the citation:
“First Electric 2-Wheeler to Reach Shipki La Pass – This record was set by Ampere Nexus, supporting the Indian Army’s Border Tourism initiative. The expedition, beginning in Chandigarh on August 9, 2025, concluded at Shipki La Pass (13,200 ft) on August 12, 2025. The ride showcased the vehicle’s capability, including ease of charging and reliable performance, even in extreme terrain.”

Vikas Singh, Managing Director of Greaves Electric Mobility, shared,“From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, and now to Shipki La, the Ampere Nexus continues to show what it was built for — performance, endurance, and reliability. This accomplishment is more than just another milestone; it signals how far India’s electric mobility has come. Reaching the country’s borders and partnering with the Indian Army’s Border Tourism Initiative gives this journey deeper meaning. As we celebrate our 79th Independence Day, the Nexus stands for innovation, strength, and the future of clean transportation in India.”

This feat is part of Greaves Electric Mobility’s broader vision to make electric mobility accessible across all corners of the country. With its efficient design, durable build, and easy charging capability, the Ampere Nexus demonstrates that sustainable transport is no longer limited to cities—it’s ready for the toughest roads and the farthest frontiers.
