Allison Transmission has been selected to supply its 3040 MX cross-drive transmission to all three Indian government-backed original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) participating in the Future Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV) prototype program. Announced on April 23, 2025, this marks a significant milestone as the Indian Army prepares to replace its aging fleet of BMP-II Infantry Fighting Vehicles with modern, domestically developed alternatives.

Each OEM has worked closely with Allison to integrate the 3040 MX into their prototype designs, ensuring optimal performance and compatibility. With India planning to acquire around 1,750 FICVs, the long-term business potential for Allison could total several hundred million dollars over the next 20 years.

“This recognition from all three OEMs speaks volumes about the strength and dependability of our 3040 MX system,” said Dana Pittard, Vice President of Defense Programs at Allison Transmission. “It reflects not only our product quality but also our ability to support defense programs with precision engineering, technical assistance, and consistent performance.”

The selection supports India’s “Make in India” initiative. Allison has operated a manufacturing plant in Chennai for the past 15 years and announced expansion plans in 2024 to double its production capacity in the country.

The 3040 MX is an evolution of the proven X300 series, known for powering combat vehicles like the CV90 and Warrior IFVs across Europe for over three decades. The updated version includes advanced electronics for better gear shifting, torque control, and system longevity. It also powers the U.S. Army’s M10 Booker light tank.
