Airbus has announced the appointment of Jürgen Westermeier as the new President and Managing Director for India and South Asia, effective from September 1. Currently serving as Executive Vice-President and Chief Procurement Officer at Airbus, Mr Westermeier will take over from Rémi Maillard, who has been named Executive Vice-President Engineering for Commercial Aircraft and Head of Technology.
In his upcoming role, Mr Westermeier will lead Airbus’ operations across Commercial Aircraft, Defence and Space, and Helicopters in India and the broader South Asian region. He will oversee aircraft sales and focus on strengthening the company’s regional presence, including its services, engineering, digital capabilities, innovation, and training initiatives.
Airbus emphasized that Mr Westermeier will also play a key role in advancing the company’s contributions to India’s “Make in India” programme by supporting strategic initiatives and partnerships aligned with this national vision. Mr Westermeier joined Airbus in 2020 as Chief Procurement Officer, where he was responsible for procurement across all Airbus business units.
His leadership saw the implementation of unified procurement processes and tools and the development of strong collaborations with suppliers across the group. An Industrial Engineering graduate from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, Mr Westermeier began his professional journey with BMW in 1998 and brings over two decades of industry experience to his new role.
