Aerotech Inc, a global provider of precision motion control and automation systems, has released the AGV-CPO CORE Performance 2-Axis Laser Scan Head. Built for a broad range of laser processing tasks, the AGV-CPO delivers high accuracy and fast response while remaining cost-conscious. By using the same control platform and core performance features as Aerotech’s higher-end two-axis scan heads, the AGV-CPO allows users to expand or upgrade their systems without losing performance or adding new control hardware.

“Aerotech AGV scanners have long been selected for the most demanding laser applications,” said Bryan Germann, optomechatronics lead at Aerotech. “With the AGV-CPO, we’ve combined the precision and control our scanners are known for with a more flexible and accessible option, allowing customers to grow their laser processes efficiently.”

The AGV-CPO operates on Aerotech’s Automation1 platform, allowing a single controller to manage up to 32 servo and galvo axes. This unified control approach simplifies system integration while supporting coordinated motion across multiple axes. Built-in features such as RS-274–compliant G-code, motion lookahead, and coordinate transformations make it easier to program complex laser paths and streamline machine design.

High accuracy and fast response are central to the AGV-CPO’s design. The scan head uses digital optical encoders and carefully selected structural materials to deliver fine resolution and rapid motion, meeting the demands of precision laser micromachining applications where consistency and repeatability are critical.

The system also supports Infinite Field of View (IFOV), which enables seamless coordination between the scan head and servo-driven stages. By extending the effective working area, IFOV eliminates the need for stitching or frequent part repositioning, improving part accuracy while reducing cycle times.

Position Synchronized Output (PSO) ensures precise laser firing based on real-time feedback from both the scanner mirrors and any coordinated motion stages. This capability provides consistent energy placement, supporting reliable results in applications such as cutting, welding, and additive manufacturing.

Designed for stable long-term operation, the AGV-CPO incorporates motor water cooling and scanner mirror air cooling to minimize thermal drift. These features help maintain process stability during extended production runs and make the system suitable for a wide range of applications, including research and development, medical device manufacturing, electronics and semiconductor processing, and advanced additive manufacturing techniques.
