The Airports Authority of India (AAI) today announced a strategic partnership with Apogee Aerospace to introduce the Albatross 2.0 Amphibious Aircraft Programme in India, marking a significant step toward expanding the nation’s regional connectivity, disaster response capability, and maritime aviation infrastructure.
The collaboration brings together AAI’s extensive operational expertise and infrastructure stewardship with Apogee Aerospace’s advanced design, manufacturing, and systems integration capabilities. The Albatross 2.0 programme is designed to deliver a next-generation amphibious aircraft platform capable of operating seamlessly from land runways and water bodies, enabling access to remote, island, and coastal regions that are currently underserved by conventional aviation.
Under the partnership, AAI and Apogee Aerospace will work closely to evaluate operational requirements, certification pathways, and deployment models tailored to India’s diverse geography. The programme aims to support a wide range of missions, including regional passenger transport, medical evacuation, search and rescue, coastal surveillance, and humanitarian assistance during natural disasters such as floods and cyclones.
The Albatross 2.0 amphibious aircraft is envisioned as a modern, efficient, and environmentally responsible platform, incorporating advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials, and contemporary avionics. Its ability to operate without the need for extensive airport infrastructure positions it as a transformative solution for improving last-mile connectivity, particularly in island territories, riverine regions, and coastal belts.
The Albatross 2.0 Amphibious Aircraft Programme is expected to progress through phased development, testing, and certification, with stakeholder consultations and regulatory engagement forming a core part of the roadmap. This partnership underscores a shared commitment by AAI and Apogee Aerospace to innovation, sustainability, and inclusive connectivity, setting the stage for a new chapter in India’s civil and special-mission aviation landscape.
The Airports Authority of India is responsible for creating, upgrading, maintaining, and managing civil aviation infrastructure across the country. Apogee Aerospace is an aerospace company focused on advanced aircraft programmes, engineering solutions, and next-generation aviation technologies.
