Occidental Petroleum Corporation has announced the appointment of Andrew Gould to its Board of Directors, effective March 1. The addition brings decades of global leadership experience in the oil and gas sector to the company’s governance structure.

Andrew Gould has built a career spanning more than 40 years in the energy industry. He is best known for his tenure at Schlumberger Limited, where he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from 2003 to 2011. During his leadership, the company strengthened its global footprint and delivered sustained operational and financial performance. Gould began his journey with Schlumberger in 1975, working in the internal audit function in Paris before progressing through a series of senior roles.

Gene L Batchelder, Chairman of the Board at Occidental, stated that Gould’s extensive experience as a global chief executive will add meaningful perspective to the Board. He highlighted Gould’s track record of driving value creation and managing complex international operations, noting that his insights will support the company’s continued focus on delivering returns to shareholders.

Commenting on his appointment, Andrew Gould said he has long regarded Occidental as a company with strong industry standing and a commitment to innovation. He pointed to the company’s expertise in the use of carbon dioxide for enhanced oil recovery as a key capability that can contribute to lowering overall emissions. He added that he looks forward to supporting Occidental as it continues to build value from its portfolio of assets.

Beyond his role at Schlumberger, Gould has held several prominent leadership positions. He served as non-executive chairman of BG Group from 2012 until its acquisition by Royal Dutch Shell in 2016, and also acted as interim executive chairman during 2014. He currently serves on the board of Saudi Aramco and BJ Services.

Mr Gould holds a degree in Economic History from Cardiff University and is a qualified Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. The appointment reflects Occidental’s continued efforts to strengthen its Board with experienced industry leaders as it navigates evolving energy markets and pursues long-term growth opportunities.

Occidental Petroleum is a global energy company focused on oil and gas exploration and production, with operations spanning the United States, the Middle East, and Latin America. It holds a leading position in the Permian Basin as both the largest acreage owner and top producer. The company is also working toward a lower-carbon future through its subsidiary, Oxy Low Carbon Ventures, which develops and promotes innovative technologies aimed at improving efficiency, supporting sustainable growth, and reducing emissions.

In addition to its upstream activities, Occidental operates a marketing and midstream segment, including Western Midstream Partners, LP under WES Midstream. Its chemical division, OxyChem, ranks among the top three producers in the United States for its key products.
