SSAB has announced the opening of a new steel service center in Mumbai, aimed at supplying precision-engineered components and ready-to-assemble kits for India’s growing transport, construction and lifting equipment sectors. The facility is dedicated to processing and delivering advanced materials including Hardox® wear plate and Strenx® performance steel.
The new center combines high-performance steel solutions with localized processing capabilities, enabling manufacturers to source finished components that improve durability, reduce production timelines and enhance overall efficiency. The facility is designed to meet the increasing demand for high-strength, wear-resistant materials used in heavy-duty applications.
Hardox® wear plate is widely recognized for its resistance to abrasion, making it suitable for applications such as tippers and rock bodies where durability and extended service life are critical. Strenx® performance steel, known for its high strength-to-weight ratio, supports the development of lighter and stronger structures used in trailers, cranes and lifting equipment.
The Mumbai service center focuses on delivering pre-processed components and modular kits that simplify manufacturing processes for equipment builders. Typical applications supported by the facility include box and rock body tippers, tipping trailers and lifting booms. The center also offers specialized capabilities such as precision bending of high-strength steel plates, which is essential for advanced equipment designs and lightweight structures.
Strategically located within an industrial hub with access to Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane, the facility includes a centralized warehouse spanning approximately 100,000 square feet. It has the capacity to store over 10,000 tonnes of steel, ensuring reliable availability and faster delivery to customers.
The establishment of the service center aligns with SSAB’s strategy to strengthen its presence in India and support the country’s expanding infrastructure and transportation sectors.
