Zero Footprint Industries Ltd (ZFI) and Waaree Clean Energy Solutions Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Waaree Energies Limited, have signed an Electrolyzer as a Service (EAAS) agreement for a 2.5 MW alkaline electrolyzer to support ZFI’s green hydrogen expansion in Uttar Pradesh. The companies have also entered into a strategic memorandum of understanding to deploy up to 50 MW of electrolyzers under the EAAS model for multiple decentralised green hydrogen projects across Northern India.

Under the 15-year agreement, Waaree will design, engineer, manufacture, install, commission, own, and operate the 2.5 MW alkaline electrolyzer system. The equipment will be produced at Waaree’s Dungri facility in Gujarat. The plant will supply green hydrogen and green oxygen to ZFI to serve industrial customers transitioning from grey hydrogen.

The project is expected to generate approximately 4.1 million Nm³ of green hydrogen and 2 million Nm³ of green oxygen annually. Output will primarily cater to industries including mentha oil processing, chemicals, steel, and pharmaceuticals, enabling cost-effective decarbonisation and supporting India’s net-zero ambitions.

The agreement is centered on the deployment of proven alkaline electrolyzer stacks engineered for continuous industrial operations. The technology has been selected to ensure stable performance, operational reliability, and suitability for large-scale hydrogen production in demanding industrial environments.

The project will commence with an installed capacity of 500 cubic metres per hour. Over the next five years, the partners intend to expand this footprint significantly, with a planned scale-up to 10,000 cubic metres per hour across multiple locations. This phased expansion strategy is designed to support growing demand for green hydrogen across diverse sectors.

Hydrogen produced under this initiative will be generated using renewable energy sources and supplied for industrial applications as well as inland transportation across road, rail, and waterways. The first phase is being executed on an accelerated schedule of around seven months, with electrolyzer stack delivery expected in the second quarter of FY 2026–27 and commercial operations targeted for the third quarter of the same financial year.

Anuj Sharma, CEO – Hydrogen Business at Waaree, said the agreement underscores the company’s ability to deliver high-performance electrolyzer technology along with strong operations and maintenance capabilities. He noted that the EAAS structure enables rapid, decentralised deployment of reliable and energy-efficient hydrogen systems.

ZFI stated that the partnership will accelerate the establishment of multiple decentralised hydrogen plants, creating a combined capacity of up to 10,000 m³ per hour in phases. The initiative is positioned to strengthen regional green hydrogen infrastructure while supporting industrial energy transition efforts.

This collaboration represents a significant advancement in scaling commercially viable green hydrogen solutions in India, combining manufacturing strength, operational expertise, and long-term service delivery under an asset-light model. Waaree Energies operates manufacturing facilities with a total installed capacity of 22.8 GW for solar modules and 5.4 GW for solar cells. With operations spanning more than 25 countries, Waaree continues to play a key role in advancing India’s clean energy transition.
