Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd (HSCL), a global player in speciality chemicals and advanced carbon materials, has commenced commercial production at its newly installed 70,000 MTPA Speciality Carbon Black line at Mahistikry in Hooghly, West Bengal.

With this brownfield expansion now operational, the Company’s total carbon black manufacturing capacity has increased to 250,000 MTPA. Of this, 130,000 MTPA is dedicated to speciality carbon black at the Mahistikry site. Following this addition, the Mahistikry unit has emerged as the world’s largest single-location facility for speciality carbon black production.

The commissioning represents a key milestone in the Company’s expansion roadmap and further strengthens its standing in the global speciality carbon black segment.

The enhanced capacity deepens Himadri’s presence in high-performance and value-added applications across plastics, inks, paints, coatings and other specialised industries. The new line is equipped with advanced processing systems, modern quality assurance infrastructure and energy-efficient operations. The facility has also been designed with scalable capabilities to ensure consistent output of premium grades for international markets.

Commenting on the development, Anurag Choudhary, Chairman & Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, said the start of commercial production at the 70,000 MTPA line marks a new phase in the Company’s advanced carbon materials business. He noted that with total speciality carbon black capacity at Mahistikry reaching 130,000 MTPA, the site now holds a unique global position in terms of scale at a single location.

He added that the expanded capacity significantly improves the Company’s ability to address growing international demand for application-specific and high-performance carbon solutions. The focus remains on calibrated growth, operational discipline, sustainability and delivering reliable, high-quality materials to customers worldwide.

The additional capacity is expected to support revenue expansion and contribute positively to margins over the medium term. As demand trends increasingly favour specialised and customised carbon solutions, the Company’s larger scale is set to provide operational advantages, improved supply dependability, faster response to market requirements and stronger product development capabilities.
