Hindustan Zinc Limited (NSE: HINDZINC), the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, continues to strengthen rural livelihoods in Rajasthan through its flagship agri-livelihood programme, Samadhan, implemented as part of its CSR initiatives. Since its inception, the programme has reached nearly 1.4 lakh farmers and enabled diversified farm income exceeding ₹192 crore in the last financial year, marking a significant shift towards sustainable and resilient agriculture.
Samadhan focuses on moving farmers away from traditional, low-yield practices to scientific and climate-smart farming. The programme supports crop diversification, improved dairy practices, livestock development, promotion of micro-enterprises and the creation of farmer-owned institutions. These interventions are designed to improve productivity, reduce dependency on single income sources and enhance long-term income security.
The impact of the initiative is visible at the grassroots level. Farmers who earlier relied on rain-fed agriculture and informal markets have adopted precision irrigation, scientific pest management and improved animal husbandry practices. Participation in Farmer Producer Organisations has enabled better aggregation, assured market access and improved price realisation. Over the past year, the programme facilitated livestock asset creation worth more than ₹90 crore and enabled the production of over 280 million litres of milk, valued at more than ₹88 crore. Farmer-owned enterprises and micro-businesses, including dairy-based FMCG products and mineral mixture units, contributed nearly ₹7 crore in additional income.
Samadhan has also played a critical role in institution building. The programme has mobilised 510 Farmer Interest Groups and established five Farmer Producer Organisations with over 9,300 farmer shareholders. Climate-smart agricultural practices have been implemented across more than 2,400 hectares, covering hi-tech vegetable cultivation, precision irrigation, trellis farming, medicinal crops, WADI models and bio-fortified zinc- and iron-rich wheat. These efforts have improved farm productivity while supporting better nutrition outcomes.
Women farmers are emerging as key contributors within the programme, taking leadership roles in dairy enterprises, horticulture activities and farmer groups. Their participation has strengthened household incomes and improved community resilience.
Beyond Samadhan, Hindustan Zinc’s broader social development strategy spans education, healthcare, women empowerment, skilling, sustainable livelihoods and environmental stewardship. Through long-term, community-led initiatives, the company today touches nearly 23 lakh people across more than 2,300 villages, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive growth and rural transformation aligned with India’s development priorities.
