IndianOil Total Private Limited (ITPL), the joint venture formed by Indian Oil Corporation and TotalEnergies Marketing Services SAS, has commissioned a new greenfield Bitumen Derivatives Plant in Gummidipoondi, close to Chennai. The facility went live on November 20, marking a significant boost to the country’s supply of specialised road-building materials.
The plant was inaugurated by ITPL Chairman and Indian Oil Director (Finance) Anuj Jain, along with Olivier Van Parys, Senior Vice-President, TotalEnergies Marketing & Services for Asia Pacific and the Middle East. The unit is designed to produce a range of bitumen-based products, including Polymer Modified Bitumen, Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen, Natural Rubber Modified Bitumen, and Bitumen Emulsions—key materials used in major road and infrastructure projects.
Built with advanced automation and stringent global safety systems, the facility is expected to serve national highways, state road development programmes, industrial corridors, and large urban infrastructure projects across South India. According to the company, the plant will substantially strengthen supply reliability for construction contractors and government agencies across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Telangana.
Jain said the new unit enhances ITPL’s capability to offer high-performance materials that match the pace of India’s infrastructure expansion. ThibaultLesueur, who heads TotalEnergies’ businesses in South Asia, noted that the plant reflects the company’s long-term engagement in India and its commitment to providing materials engineered to perform under the country’s diverse climatic and traffic conditions.
ITPL Managing Director & CEO Naveen Makheja added that the facility’s strategic location will streamline logistics for highway development, urban mobility upgrades, port connectivity projects, and industrial zones. Established in 2020, ITPL combines IndianOil’s extensive distribution reach with TotalEnergies’ global expertise in asphalt technology to serve national and state agencies, large contractors, and urban development authorities.
