Adani Cement, part of the diversified Adani Group, and Finland-based technology company Coolbrook have announced a partnership to deliver the world’s first commercial-scale installation of Coolbrook’s RotoDynamic Heater™ (RDH™) technology. The system will be deployed at Adani Cement’s Boyareddypalli Integrated Cement Plant in Andhra Pradesh, India — marking a major breakthrough in clean industrial heat and cement sector decarbonisation.
This project represents the first industrial-scale use of Coolbrook’s RDH™ system, a key innovation in electrifying high-temperature processes. The initiative supports Adani Cement’s Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, while also advancing Coolbrook’s global mission to eliminate 2.4 billion tonnes of CO₂ annually from heavy industries.
The RDH™ technology targets the calcination process — the most carbon-intensive phase of cement manufacturing — by replacing fossil fuel combustion with clean, electrified heat. It also enhances the drying and energy value of alternative fuels, significantly increasing their use in place of traditional fuels. Once operational, the system is expected to cut approximately 60,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year, with the potential to achieve tenfold reductions over time.
Powered entirely by renewable energy from Adani Cement’s extensive green power portfolio, the RDH™ will deliver emission-free industrial heat. This project provides a proof point for scaling up renewable-powered industrial electrification and positions India as a global hub for sustainable cement production.
Vinod Bahety, CEO of Adani Cement, commented “Deploying Coolbrook’s RotoDynamic Heater™ in our operations marks a defining step in our decarbonisation roadmap. This technology helps us transition away from fossil fuels, enhance clean energy use, and establish new benchmarks for low-carbon cement manufacturing. Our partnership with Coolbrook reflects our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and long-term climate leadership.”
The collaboration opens the door to broader applications of RotoDynamic Technology across Adani Cement’s operations. Both companies have identified multiple follow-up projects and plan to initiate at least five more deployments within the next two years.
In the coming years, RDH™ systems are expected to play a central role in improving process efficiency, supporting Adani Cement’s sustainability targets — including increasing the use of alternative fuels and raw materials (AFR) to 30% and expanding the share of renewable energy to 60% by FY2028. The first-generation RDH™ will produce hot gases reaching 1,000°C, enabling efficient drying and utilisation of greener fuel alternatives — a milestone in high-temperature electrification for cement production.
Joonas Rauramo, CEO of Coolbrook, added “Our collaboration with Adani Cement on the world’s first industrial-scale RDH™ project represents a pivotal step in transforming how the world’s most essential materials are produced. We are demonstrating that cement manufacturing can be cleaner, more efficient, and ready for a net-zero future.”
Adani Cement is one of only four global cement producers with SBTi-validated net-zero targets and the first to join the International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) Alliance for Industry Decarbonisation (AFID). Adani Cement is the building materials arm of the Adani Group, encompassing the trusted brands Ambuja Cements and ACC. As the world’s ninth-largest cement producer, it has an installed capacity of around 107 million tonnes per annum, supplying roughly 30% of the cement used in India’s infrastructure and housing sectors.
The company’s product range includes all-purpose and specialised cement and concrete solutions designed for diverse applications. Backed by advanced R&D facilities and a strong sustainability focus, Adani Cement continues to lead innovation in green materials, low-carbon concrete, and performance-enhancing additives. Its mission is to build a stronger, more sustainable nation by delivering quality, reliability, and innovation across all construction segments.
