IndiGo, India’s largest carrier, has confirmed a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, converting its earlier Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in June into a finalized purchase agreement. With this addition, IndiGo’s total A350 order rises to 60 aircraft, marking a major milestone in its strategic plan to expand into the long-haul international travel segment. The A350’s advanced range, fuel efficiency, and comfort will serve as the foundation for IndiGo’s next phase of global connectivity.
Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo, stated, “Today marks a defining step in IndiGo’s journey toward building a truly global network. By confirming our order for 30 more A350-900s, we are reinforcing our confidence in India’s aviation growth and our enduring collaboration with Airbus. These aircraft will be central to our vision of connecting India with key destinations worldwide and contributing to the country’s emergence as a global aviation hub by 2030.”
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales, Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, said, “The A350’s exceptional range, fuel economy, and passenger comfort make it the perfect choice for IndiGo’s expansion into long-haul markets. This milestone further deepens our partnership with one of the world’s fastest-growing airlines, and we look forward to supporting their new international routes.”
India, now the world’s fastest-growing aviation market, is seeing a surge in international air travel driven by economic expansion and rising disposable incomes. Airbus, a long-term partner in India’s aviation development for over five decades, continues to play a pivotal role in supporting this growth. While the A320 Family has powered the rise of affordable air travel domestically, the A350 is set to enable Indian carriers to compete on global long-haul routes.
The A350 is widely recognized as the most advanced and efficient widebody aircraft in the 300–410 seat category. Featuring new-generation engines, cutting-edge aerodynamics, and lightweight composite materials, it offers up to 25% lower fuel consumption, operating costs, and CO₂ emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft. The model can already operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus targeting full 100% SAF capability by 2030. As of September 2025, Airbus had secured more than 1,400 A350 orders from 63 airlines worldwide, underscoring the aircraft’s strong global appeal as the benchmark for next-generation long-haul travel.
