Maruti Suzuki India Limited has entered into a formal agreement with the Transport Department of Tamil Nadu to establish ten Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) across key locations in the state. This initiative is part of the company’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at enhancing road safety and improving the transparency of driving license assessments.

The planned test tracks will be installed in the following districts: Marthandam, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore (Central), Madurai (North), Tuticorin, Krishnagiri, Dindigul, Tiruvannamalai, Sivagangai, and Trichy (West). These locations were chosen based on recommendations from the state Transport Department, with consideration given to traffic volume, license issuance frequency, and proximity to urban centers.

The signing of the agreement was attended by SS Sivasankar, Minister for Transport and Electricity, and Dheeraj Kumar, IAS, Home Secretary. The agreement was formally signed by R Gajalakshmi, IAS, Transport and Road Safety Commissioner, and Tarun Agarwal, Senior Vice President, CSR at Maruti Suzuki.

Each of the new tracks will utilize advanced technologies such as video analytics, RFID, and HAMS (Harnessing Automobiles for Safety) to conduct standardized and technology-driven driving tests. The system ensures an impartial and fully automated evaluation process, in line with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules.

Minister SS Sivasankar acknowledged the initiative, stating, “We appreciate Maruti Suzuki’s role in strengthening road safety infrastructure through meaningful partnerships. These new automated tracks will support the government’s goal of instilling safe driving habits and improving licensing systems across Tamil Nadu.”

Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer – Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki, commented, “This collaboration reflects our ongoing effort to make Indian roads safer. Through automated testing, only drivers who meet a rigorous standard are issued licenses. We’re proud to contribute to a more disciplined driving environment in Tamil Nadu.”

In August 2025, Maruti Suzuki also partnered with the Government of Rajasthan to roll out 21 ADTTs. With the addition of Tamil Nadu’s 10, the total number of operational and upcoming tracks will reach 76 nationwide.

Further supporting its road safety goals, Maruti Suzuki has helped set up 8 Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTRs) and 23 Road Safety Knowledge Centres (RSKCs) across India. The company is also involved in the implementation of Integrated Traffic Safety Management Systems (ITMS), offering real-time monitoring tools to assist traffic enforcement. Additionally, it provides first responder training for commercial drivers and other key road users to strengthen emergency response capabilities.
