Framatome, a global nuclear energy company, has officially launched its India operations center in Navi Mumbai, marking a significant step in expanding its footprint in the country. The inauguration took place in the presence of senior representatives from the French Embassy and Consulate, as well as officials from EDF and Framatome.

This new facility reinforces Framatome’s long-term commitment to India’s civil nuclear energy program, especially as the country targets 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047. “Framatome has been involved in India for many years through our subsidiaries Jeumont Electric and Corys. We are pleased to deepen our engagement at a time when India is entering a new phase in its nuclear energy development,” said Grégoire Ponchon, CEO of Framatome. “India offers exceptional engineering talent. To support our expansion, we plan to hire skilled professionals to strengthen our local team and align with our global operations.”

Framatome is actively engaged in providing engineering services for nuclear projects worldwide. The new India base will focus on delivering multi-disciplinary engineering expertise in mechanical, process, electrical, and instrumentation & control systems.

“Our India team already contributes to Framatome’s global projects,” said Navnith Nair, CEO – Framatome India. “We also look forward to working with Indian utilities and partners on both life extension programs for existing plants and new build projects, including potential collaboration on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in coordination with the EDF Group.”

India currently operates 25 nuclear reactors, with a combined capacity of approximately 9 GW, accounting for about 3% of the nation’s electricity generation. In line with its clean energy and decarbonization goals, the country is constructing additional nuclear plants totaling 13 GW, which will bring the total installed nuclear capacity to over 22 GW in the coming years.

Framatome is a global player in the nuclear energy sector, known for its expertise in design, engineering, fuel, and service solutions for nuclear power plants. With more than 20,000 employees worldwide, the company supports the safe, efficient, and low-carbon generation of electricity through advanced nuclear technologies.
