Brightcom Group Limited is pleased to announce that renowned defence technologist and Padma Shri awardee Dr Prahlada Ramarao will serve as an advisor to the company’s Chairman and Managing Director, Suresh Kumar Reddy, focusing on developments in the Defence sector.

Dr.Ramarao is widely respected for his decades-long contributions to India’s defence and aerospace programs. He served as Distinguished Scientist and Chief Controller (R&D) at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), where he played a central role in the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP). His work has been critical to the development of several strategic systems, including the Akash, BrahMos, Prithvi, Agni, and Nag missiles.

A major highlight of Dr Ramarao’s career was his leadership in the development of the Akash missile system during his tenure as Director of the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL). While many contributed to the project, his vision and direction were instrumental in transforming the system from concept to operational deployment. The missile system was originally known as the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile System before being named “Akash” by the late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Today, it remains one of the most reliable indigenous missile systems deployed by India’s armed forces.

Dr Ramarao has held various leadership roles beyond DRDO, including serving as Vice Chancellor of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune. He is currently involved with several scientific and educational institutions, serving as CIO of Hylenr Technologies Pvt Ltd, President of the IISc Alumni Association, and Managing Trustee of the Trust for Advancement of Aerodynamics in India (TAAI). He is also on the Board of Governors at IIT Guwahati and is a Fellow of multiple scientific and engineering academies.

Commenting on his new role, Dr Ramarao said “It is a pleasure to support Mr. Reddy and Brightcom Group at a time when defence technologies are advancing rapidly. The Group’s digital and technological expertise offers strong potential for innovative applications in national security. I look forward to contributing to initiatives that enhance India’s defence preparedness through modern, data-driven solutions.”

Suresh Kumar Reddy, CMD of Brightcom Group, welcomed the development “Having Dr Ramarao as an advisor is a great privilege. His leadership in India’s missile programs and his reputation as a visionary technologist bring exceptional value to Brightcom Defence. His experience will greatly strengthen our strategic direction and ability to develop impactful solutions for the sector. We are honored to benefit from his guidance.”

This partnership represents a significant step forward for Brightcom Group’s efforts in the Defence domain. Dr Ramarao’s involvement will help shape the company’s focus on advanced technologies tailored for national security applications.
