The Renewables division of Larsen & Toubro has secured a new engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) order for a 116 MWac solar photovoltaic plant integrated with a 241 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Kajra, Lakhisarai district, Bihar. This latest order extends the total storage capacity at the site to 495 MWh, making it the largest such project commissioned by a state utility in India.

The integrated solar-plus-storage facility will enable the storage of surplus solar energy and its dispatch during peak demand hours, enhancing grid stability and supporting round-the-clock clean energy supply. The BESS will feature liquid cooling technology, ensuring high power density, enhanced safety, and longer system life.

This initiative supports the Indian government’s drive for co-located renewable energy and battery storage systems. It also aligns with Bihar’s Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan, aimed at promoting sustainable development, environmental conservation, and job creation at the local level.

L&T’s Renewables arm had earlier won an EPC order for a 275 MW solar PV project in Gujarat. With this new addition, it continues to strengthen its position as a leading provider of flexible, efficient, and cost-effective green energy solutions in the country.
