On World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 200 electric DEVi buses produced by PMI Electro Mobility in Delhi. This move is part of a larger effort to promote sustainable public transport and cut down on carbon emissions, aligning with the Green Viksit Bharat mission.

The new fleet of electric buses will run on 30 specially designated eco-friendly routes in the city, helping to advance the transition to zero-emission transportation. With this expansion, PMI now operates over 2,500 electric buses in 31 cities across the country. Together, these buses are expected to cut down more than 250,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

In addition to the bus launch, the Prime Minister participated in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative by planting a banyan sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park. This effort aims to raise awareness about environmental conservation and encourage citizens to engage in tree planting.

To further support the green movement, PMI also distributed 10,000 biodegradable seed cards, containing basil and wildflower seeds, to promote community-driven environmental efforts. Established in 2017, PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd. is a leading manufacturer of electric commercial vehicles in India, with a particular focus on electric buses. Based in Delhi-NCR, PMI plays a central role in the country’s push for electric mobility and environmental sustainability.

PMI’s range of electric buses includes various sizes, such as 7-metre, 9-metre, and 12-metre models, along with electric school buses. The company’s manufacturing plant has the capacity to produce over 2,500 electric buses annually. These vehicles utilize state-of-the-art technology to meet the needs of both urban and regional public transportation networks.

By June 2025, PMI will have over 2,500 electric buses operating in 31 cities, contributing to the reduction of more than 250,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions per year. Over the buses’ operational lifetimes, this could lead to a reduction of over 3 million metric tons of CO₂.

The buses are powered by lithium-ion batteries and feature advanced systems such as fast charging, regenerative braking, and telematics to optimize performance, safety, and energy efficiency. Many of PMI’s buses are deployed by public transport authorities and procured through government initiatives like FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India).

Along with manufacturing, PMI provides after-sales support, ensuring continuous service through dedicated maintenance teams. The company’s “Green Routes” initiative, which promotes environmental awareness, is an integral part of its efforts to encourage sustainability in local communities.
