The company has consistently demonstrated its leadership in water stewardship by focusing on water conservation and ensuring access to clean and safe water for communities.

Cairn’s comprehensive water management program emphasizes efficient water usage, recycling, rainwater harvesting, and the conservation of resources, helping maintain its position as a Net Water Positive company since FY22. The company has also achieved an increasing Net Positive Water Impact (NPWI) Index of 1.15.

Cairn has made significant strides in water sustainability, achieving a Net Water Positive status since FY22, with a Net Positive Water Index (NPWI) of 1.15. The company has been highly effective in utilizing saline water, meeting over 99% of its operational water needs through this source. This approach helps reduce the strain on local freshwater resources, benefiting surrounding communities. Additionally, Cairn has saved around 7 lakh kiloliters of water over the past five years and has demonstrated a strong commitment to water conservation.

In terms of water recycling, Cairn has made impressive progress, achieving an 85% recycling rate in FY25. One of the company’s key achievements is the reinjection of produced water, with nearly 97% of it being recycled, far exceeding the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) global benchmark of 62%. These efforts underscore Cairn’s dedication to responsible water management and its role in promoting sustainable practices within the industry.

Cairn Oil & Gas’ initiatives extend beyond its operations. In Rajasthan, the BarmerUnnati project has developed approximately 1,100 rainwater harvesting structures, increasing the region’s annual rainwater collection potential by 2.35 million kL. Additionally, 15 community borewells and 124 water ATMs have been set up to provide clean water to local residents. The company plans to develop more than 100 additional structures by 2025 to reach 3 million kL of rainwater harvesting annually, benefiting over 60,000 people.

In Assam, Cairn has installed seven tubewells in Pas Chamua village, ensuring clean drinking water for hundreds of residents. The company has also equipped several local public offices with Reverse Osmosis (RO) purifiers, benefiting citizens accessing public services.

In alignment with this year’s World Water Day theme, “Glacier Preservation,” Cairn continues its commitment to environmental sustainability. As part of its goal to plant 2 million trees by 2030, the company has already planted 7.6 lakh trees, prioritizing native species and supporting carbon offset programs and ecosystem restoration.
