Schaeffler is considering the creation of a Global Capability Centre (GCC) as part of its strategy to strengthen its software and digitalisation capabilities. This initiative is a key element of the company’s broader transformation towards electrification, digital technologies, and sustainability.
The proposed GCC would complement Schaeffler’s existing mechatronics centre in Pune, focused on electromechanical system design, as well as its Bengaluru facility, which was integrated through the Vitesco merger and employs around 900 engineers specializing in power electronics and software.
HarshaKadam, CEO and MD of Schaeffler India, emphasized, “We are working on plans for the Global Capability Centre, which will enhance our expertise not only in the automotive sector but also in industrial applications. Digitalisation is essential, and without it, we won’t be able to meet our climate neutrality target for 2040.”
Schaeffler aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2040, setting a goal well ahead of India’s 2070 commitment. Kadam further stated, “Every initiative we undertake is focused on this goal. Software and digitalisation are critical components in reaching it.”
The company is currently evaluating several locations for the new GCC, with Bengaluru being a key candidate. “We are considering multiple options for the centre, and a final decision has not yet been made,” Kadam confirmed.
