RRP Semiconductor Ltd. (RRP), a key player in the semiconductor and renewable energy industries, has achieved a major milestone with its entry into the fabless semiconductor market. This marks a strategic shift towards the independent design and development of semiconductor solutions.
The company has successfully acquired the complete intellectual property (IP) for ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) designs from its technology partners in Europe. This achievement follows extensive discussions and collaborations with international tech leaders, ensuring a smooth transition to advanced semiconductor design capabilities.
With the backing of its group companies and consortium, which includes outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) packaging facilities and fab prototyping, RRP Semiconductor is now positioned to offer end-to-end semiconductor solutions.
The company’s new ASIC design capabilities will enable it to manufacture a variety of automotive components and chips at scale. Currently, these components are largely imported, presenting a significant business opportunity. Market projections suggest a growth from USD 25 million to over USD 100 million within two years of deployment.
ASICs are custom-designed integrated circuits for specific applications, such as voice recorders or video codecs. These chips, which can include microprocessors, ROM, RAM, EEPROM, and flash memory, are essential in producing System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions.
With the ASIC market expected to exceed USD 30 billion by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 7.10% from 2031 to 2034, RRP Semiconductor is well-positioned for rapid growth. Its in-house ASIC design expertise will allow the company to provide customized chip layouts to fabrication units for wafer production, adding value to the semiconductor industry.
The complete IP transfer includes ASIC development workflows, from front-end design such as RTL coding and verification, to back-end processes like DRC, LVS, and tape-out procedures. Additionally, RRP has secured the necessary EDA tools, computing infrastructure, and testing facilities, along with expertise in project management, documentation, and risk management.
The company will also host training sessions and workshops on both front-end and back-end design, incorporating practical case studies. With this strategic move, RRP Semiconductor is set to transform the semiconductor industry, providing innovative solutions on a global scale.
