Solar Industries to Invest ₹12,700 Crore in Nagpur’s Defence and Aerospace Project

Solar Industries India Limited has announced a significant step toward enhancing India’s defence and aerospace capabilities. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra on January 22, 2025, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The MoU outlines plans to establish an Anchor Mega Defence and Aerospace Project in Nagpur, showcasing a major commitment to advancing critical national infrastructure.

The proposed project involves an investment of approximately ₹12,700 crore and will focus on expanding production capabilities for key defence products. These include drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), counter-drone systems, energetic materials, and next-generation explosives. In addition, the initiative aims to introduce new products, such as military transport aircraft, to strengthen India’s defence and aerospace sectors further.

To support this endeavor, the Maharashtra government will provide assistance by facilitating necessary permissions, registrations, approvals, and fiscal incentives under its policies and regulations. “The Government of Maharashtra will facilitate Economic Explosives Limited (EEL) in obtaining required clearances and incentives from the concerned departments, in line with existing policies and rules,” the filing added.
