Audi, in partnership with FAW, has officially started producing all-electric Audi models at its new plant in Changchun. This facility, part of Audi’s strategy to strengthen its presence in China, marks the beginning of the company’s production of vehicles based on the next-generation PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform.
The plant will first produce the Audi Q6L e-tron and the Audi Q6L Sportback e-tron, followed by a China-specific version of the Audi A6 e-tron. These vehicles will be manufactured exclusively for the Chinese market, with features and design modifications tailored to local preferences.
Gernot Döllner, CEO of Audi AG, highlighted the importance of this production milestone: “With the start of production at Audi FAW NEV Company, we are reinforcing our commitment to the Chinese market and advancing our electrification strategy.”
The Audi Q6L e-tron, the first model produced on the PPE platform in China, boasts a longer wheelbase and unique design elements for the region. The Q6L Sportback e-tron, a sporty variant, combines the characteristics of an SUV with a sleek, coupé-inspired design. Additionally, both models feature a digital experience that has been specifically developed for Chinese consumers.
Gerd Walker, Member of Audi’s Board of Management for Production and Logistics, emphasized the importance of localized production for success in China, stating, “Being close to our customers and producing market-specific models is essential for Audi’s future.”
The Changchun plant, a joint venture with FAW, is expected to create around 3,000 new jobs. With an annual production capacity exceeding 150,000 vehicles, the facility will play a critical role in Audi’s electrification efforts in China, producing vehicles along with high-voltage batteries and other essential components.
