Bharat Forge Ltd., a leading Pune-based manufacturer and global provider of high-performance components, has been honored with the prestigious IGBC Green Champion Award at the Green Building Congress 2024 in Bengaluru. The award recognizes the company’s groundbreaking efforts in transforming villages into IGBC-certified Green Villages as part of its CSR initiatives.
As part of its CSR initiative, Bharat Forge has played a pivotal role in improving the lives of residents across 108 villages, focusing on key areas such as access to drinking water, agriculture infrastructure, healthcare, education, organic farming, livestock management, biodiversity, rainwater harvesting, and energy efficiency. Noteworthy achievements from these initiatives include conserving 2,625 TCM of water, benefiting 216,215 people, constructing 80 km of roads, training 764 farmers, building 34 goat sheds, setting up 7 telemedicine centers, conducting cancer screenings for 5,800 women, upgrading 12 primary health centers, and renovating 42 schools.
The company has also planted 237,000 trees, installed 469 kW of renewable energy infrastructure, and educated 1,500 students on environmental awareness. These efforts have significantly improved the quality of life in rural India while advancing sustainability. Several villages, including Dhamner, Saygaon, Rui, Takale, Nagzari, and Targaon, have earned IGBC Green Village certifications for their achievements. The Green Building Congress 2024, a key event for industry leaders, spotlighted the theme of ‘Advancing Net Zero in Buildings & Built Environment.’
Dr Leena Deshpande, Associate Vice President HR & Head CSR at Bharat Forge, received the prestigious IGBC Green Champion Award on behalf of the company at a ceremony attended by distinguished figures such as Mr B Thiagarajan, National Chairman of IGBC, and M. Arun Awasthy, President & MD of Johnson Controls India. Dr. Deshpande shared the company’s commitment to sustainable development, driven by the vision of Chairman Baba Kalyani and Vice Chairman Amit Kalyani.
