Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced that RWE, a global leader in renewable energy, will leverage HPE’s Private Cloud AI to enhance weather modeling capabilities. Through this collaboration, RWE’s Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory aims to optimize energy forecasting and streamline decision-making processes by utilizing AI-powered tools for precise analysis of weather data.

“RWE, a global leader in renewable energy, is focused on meeting growing energy demands while addressing the urgent need for climate protection,” said Simon Tarplee, Head of Commercial AI at RWE Supply & Trading. “AI plays a pivotal role in optimizing our operations and driving sustainable solutions. By the end of 2024, we aim to implement a production-ready AI solution. With HPE Private Cloud AI, we have access to a comprehensive platform that enhances forecast precision and streamlines global energy resource management.”

As part of its Growing Green initiative, RWE is heavily investing in renewable energy expansion, including onshore and offshore wind, solar parks, and battery storage systems. The company is committed to decarbonizing its operations in line with the 1.5-degree pathway and achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. Advanced AI technologies, especially in weather modeling, are central to these efforts, as accurate weather forecasting is crucial for balancing energy supply and demand.

“Refining AI-driven weather models will significantly boost RWE’s efficiency in managing renewable energy assets, giving them a competitive edge in the market,” said Fidelma Russo, EVP and GM, Hybrid Cloud, and CTO at HPE. “HPE Private Cloud AI is a robust, turnkey solution that supports rapid deployment and processing of massive datasets.”

RWE has selected HPE Private Cloud AI, part of the NVIDIA AI Computing by HPE portfolio, for its ability to manage large volumes of weather data and extract valuable insights using advanced methods such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). This private cloud solution allows RWE to deploy infrastructure quickly, aligning with internal policies and enabling faster scaling of AI projects across regions.

Co-developed with NVIDIA, HPE Private Cloud AI integrates with the HPE GreenLake cloud, offering a unified platform to monitor infrastructure, automate workflows, and manage data and sustainability metrics. This streamlined approach allows RWE’s research team to focus entirely on model development, accelerating project timelines and reinforcing the company’s market leadership.
