On November 15, 2024, Joydeep Dasgupta assumed the role of Director (Production) at NMDC Limited, a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Steel. With over 30 years of experience in the mining sector, he brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to the organization.
Prior to this, he served as Executive Director (Mines) at SAIL’s Jharkhand Group of Mines under Bokaro Steel Plant, where he successfully led key initiatives, including system enhancements, ISO certifications, and capacity expansion projects. As the former CEO of International Coal Ventures Pvt. Ltd. (ICVL), Dasgupta managed mining operations in Mozambique, ensuring a steady export of coking and thermal coal to Indian steel giants SAIL and RINL. His efforts were pivotal in streamlining coal supply chains and optimizing international resources for India.
An Electrical Engineering graduate from BIT-Sindri, he started his career as a Management Trainee at SAIL in 1991. Over the years, he has held several key positions, including Unit Head of the Jharkhand Group of Mines.
Dasgupta has undergone advanced technical training in Austria and participated in the Advanced Global Techno-Management Programme in Paris. He has also represented India in delegations to Russia and Siberia, exploring alternative coal supplies for Indian steel production.
With his extensive experience and strategic insights, NMDC anticipates significant contributions from Dasgupta as the company works towards its ambitious target of 100 million tonnes of iron ore production by 2030, maintaining its focus on sustainable and responsible mining practices. NMDC Limited, a Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Steel, is India’s largest producer of iron ore and a key player in the country’s mining industry.
