Gautam Solar to Invest ₹1,000 Crore in Solar Cell Manufacturing Facility

Gautam Solar announced plans on Wednesday to invest ₹1,000 crore in setting up a 2-gigawatt (GW) solar cell manufacturing plant. This move is part of the company’s effort to address the increasing demand for renewable energy in India and align with the government’s focus on boosting domestic solar manufacturing. The new facility aims to meet the guidelines set by the Approved List of Models & Manufacturers (ALMM), helping reduce India’s reliance on imported solar components.

“Our upcoming 2 GW solar cell manufacturing plant aligns with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) guidelines promoting indigenous production of solar cells. We are dedicated to providing advanced, reliable solar solutions that support India’s move towards a sustainable future,” said Gautam Solar CEO, Gautam Mohanka.

The plant will enhance Gautam Solar’s ability to produce solar panels that meet the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) necessary for government-supported subsidy projects. By manufacturing DCR-compliant solar cells, the company positions itself as a strong domestic alternative to Chinese suppliers currently leading the Indian market.

Gautam Solar has acquired 60 acres of land in Bhiwani, Haryana, for this project, although the company remains open to exploring other potential locations that may better suit the ecosystem. This new solar cell plant will further expand the company’s vertically integrated operations, complementing its existing solar module manufacturing facility in Haridwar and an upcoming expansion in Bhiwani.
