Boeing Names Kelly Ortberg President & CEO: Takes Over from Dave Calhoun

Boeing has announced that Kelly Ortberg will be the new president and CEO starting August 8, 2024. Ortberg will also join Boeing’s Board of Directors. He takes over from Dave Calhoun, who is retiring after leading the company since January 2020 and serving on the board since 2009.

Steven Mollenkopf, Chair of the Board, stated that Ortberg was chosen after a thorough search. He praised Ortberg for his experience and strong leadership in the aerospace industry. Mollenkopf also thanked Calhoun for his leadership during challenging times. Kelly Ortberg expressed his honor and commitment to leading Boeing, emphasizing safety and quality. He looks forward to working with Boeing’s 170,000 employees.

Kelly Ortberg, 64, has over 35 years of experience in aerospace. He started as an engineer at Texas Instruments in 1983 and joined Rockwell Collins in 1987, eventually becoming its president and CEO. He later helped integrate Rockwell Collins with United Technologies and RTX, retiring in 2021. Ortberg has served on several boards, including RTX and Aptiv PLC. Ortberg holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa.
